Eyelid Surgery

Do you look tired or fatigued even when you feel energetic and happy? If so, the reason may be right in front of your eyes. The eyes are windows to our emotions and are capable of telling others how we feel. Bright and alert eyes exude health, allowing you to appear energized, well rested, and in control. However, “bags” or puffiness under your eyes, drooping upper eyelids, wrinkles, or scowling eyebrows make you look older, angrier or more tired than you feel. The good news is that there are many highly effective options to correct these problems.

Surgery of the eyelids, also known as blepharoplasty, is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed by Plastic Surgeons. Blepharoplasty is a procedure capable of modifying the skin, fat, and muscle around the eyes to improve their appearance and is highly personalized to individual needs. In certain individuals with excessive amounts of upper eyelid skin, blepharoplasty can even improve peripheral vision! Dr. Rodgers typically performs Blepharoplasty as an outpatient procedure in a fully accredited hospital. Typically, local anesthesia is used to numb the area around the eyes and sedation, managed by licensed anesthesiologists, is given for the one to two hour procedure. General anesthesia may also be used if preferred. The incisions are hidden in the natural creases of the upper eyelids and just below the eyelashes of the lower eyelids. The lower eyelid incision can be completely hidden inside the eyelid when excess skin is not a problem. These scars fade with time and gradually become a thin line that is completely imperceptible. The swelling and bruising that occurs around the eyes after surgery will gradually subside within ten to fourteen days. Most people can return to work with light make-up or sunglasses within seven to ten days. Healthy men and women ages 35 or older with realistic expectations are the best candidates for this procedure. However, younger individuals with drooping, baggy eyelids inherited from their family may also be good candidates.

Schedule your complimentary consultation with Dr. Rodgers to learn what eyelid surgery can do for you. Also, Dr. Rodgers will discuss the many non-surgical options to rejuvenate the forehead and eyes. He will even discuss how surgical and non-surgical procedures can be combined to give you a tremendously powerful transformation.
