Surgical placement of saline filled implants or silicone gel implants beneath the chest muscle or breast tissue to increase breast size and improve symmetry.
Breast augmentation takes about an hour and is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.
Increases breast volume, balances natural asymmetry, restores lost fullness from pregnancy or weight loss, and enhances self-image.
Recovery varies somewhat between patients but most of Dr. Rodgers’ augmentation patients are back to work in 48 to 72 hours with only minimal discomfort.
Breast augmentation, clinically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to increase breast volume, improve shape, and restore symmetry. Women choose breast enlargement surgery for many personal reasons, including restoring fullness lost after pregnancy or weight loss, balancing unequal breast size, or achieving a more proportional silhouette.
During your private consultation, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. B. Allen Rodgers evaluates your anatomy, skin elasticity, body mass index, and personal goals to recommend the ideal surgical technique, implant placement, and implant type.
Options for breast enhancement include:
Features a cohesive silicone gel inside a silicone shell, providing a soft, natural appearance and feel. If you are considering silicone implants, Dr. Rodgers strongly recommends Sientra. Drawing upon his personal experience with prosthetics of over a decade, he absolutely notices a lower implant-related complication rate (contractures/ruptures/displacements) when Sientra implants are placed. Furthermore, Sientra will only sell their implants to Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons and have the most impressive warranty coverage in the business.
We are proud to offer both saline and silicone prosthetics and all 3 brands of FDA approved manufacturers: Sientra, Mentor, and Allergan.
Saline filled implants utilize a silicone shell filled with sterile salt water during surgery.
Uses fat transfer to harvest tissue via liposuction and graft it into the breasts for subtle, natural volume without synthetic medical devices.
Combines implant placement with a breast lift to simultaneously increase fullness and remove excess skin for elevated breasts.
Breast augmentation takes about an hour and is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. The scarring is minimal, just about a 4 cm (less than 2-inch) incision under the breast, around the nipple, or in the armpit (Dr. Rodgers will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each choice).
Depending on your preference, Dr. Rodgers makes a short incision via an inframammary fold placement (under the crease), a periareolar incision (around the nipple), or a transaxillary incision (in the armpit). From there, the space for your new implants is delicately created.
Dr. Rodgers navigates around delicate blood vessels to position the device. He evaluates subglandular placement (above the muscle) versus submuscular placement or dual-plane placement. For select patients who qualify, we can do above-the-muscle implants in the office for additional convenience.
Dr. Rodgers strongly believes in the dual-plane augmentation, where the upper portion of the implant is placed beneath your pectoralis (chest) muscle, and the lower portion is positioned directly under your breast tissue for enhanced projection.
Breast implant surgery treats a variety of aesthetic and anatomical concerns, including:
Adds volume to achieve larger breasts that complement your frame.
Restores lost breast tissue volume and shape.
Corrects noticeable differences in size or shape between breasts.
Improves upper breast fullness and projection against the chest wall.
Supports breast reconstruction goals following breast cancer treatment.
Proportional Silhouette
Balancing your chest profile creates cohesive body proportions, making clothes, swimwear, and athletic apparel fit comfortably.
Custom Aesthetic Choices
Selecting your ideal implant size, shape, and fill allows you to tailor your desired outcome to your exact preferences.
High Patient Satisfaction
Surpassing most cosmetic procedures in proven outcomes, breast augmentation patients report substantial boosts in self image and lifestyle freedom.
Hospital-Grade Patient Safety
Performing surgery in fully accredited facilities with a board certified plastic surgeon maximizes safety and minimizes risks.
You are generally a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery if you are in good physical health, maintain a stable weight, and have realistic expectations about surgical outcomes. Candidates seeking silicone breast implants must be at least 22 years old per FDA guidelines, while saline breast implants are approved for women aged 18 and older.
Breast implant surgery should be postponed if you have active infections, untreated breast cancer, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. During your consultation, Dr. Rodgers conducts a thorough review of your medical history to confirm patient safety and ensure your chest muscle and skin elasticity can properly support your chosen implant size.
Recovery varies somewhat between patients but most of Dr. Rodgers’ augmentation patients are back to work in 48 to 72 hours with only minimal discomfort. Expect mild swelling and bruising that gradually fades over about 2 weeks. Implants may appear ‘high’ for the first couple of weeks but will be completely natural looking in about a month.
You will wear a surgical bra or supportive garment immediately following surgery to minimize swelling and keep implants supported as tissues settle. Strong support (sports bra) is recommended for 3 months for prosthetics under 500cc and 6 months for over.
Patients may feel sore initially, but light daily activities can be resumed quickly. Strenuous physical exercise, heavy lifting, and chest-impact workouts must be avoided for four to six weeks to allow proper healing at the surgical site.
Your new breast volume and silhouette are visible immediately following surgery. As post-operative swelling resolves and pectoral muscle tension relaxes, your implants drop and soften into their natural position on the chest wall.
Incision scars along the breast crease, areola, or armpit fade into fine, faint lines over 6 to 12 months with proper sun protection. While breast implants are not considered lifetime devices, modern prosthetics provide long-lasting shape for many years. The FDA recommends that prosthetics be exchanged (or removed) in 10 years.
Every patient has a unique idea of what breast augmentation should accomplish. You may want to increase volume, restore fullness after pregnancy or weight changes, or improve balance in your natural proportions. At The Artisan Center for Plastic Surgery, board-certified and fellowship-trained plastic surgeon Dr. B. Allen Rodgers works with you to understand your priorities and discuss the options available, including implant size, shape, and placement when appropriate. With a treatment plan tailored to your anatomy and preferences, you can move forward feeling informed and confident in your decision.

Saline implants consist of a silicone shell filled with sterile salt water, offering a firmer feel and requiring a smaller incision. Silicone gel implants are pre-filled with a cohesive silicone gel that closely mirrors the soft, natural feel of natural breast tissue.
No. Breast implants are not considered lifetime devices. While many implants last 10 to 20 years or longer without issue, lifetime devices do not exist in medical manufacturing. Routine monitoring is recommended, and replacement or removal may be needed over time due to normal wear, implant rupture, or changing personal goals.
Dr. Rodgers places incisions in discreet locations to minimize visible scarring, such as within the inframammary fold under the breast crease, around the lower edge of the areola (periareolar), or inside the armpit fold (transaxillary).
As with any surgical procedure, potential risks include infection, bleeding, changes in nipple sensation, scar tissue formation around the implant (capsular contracture), breast implant rupture, and rare conditions such as breast implant illness or anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). Dr. Rodgers thoroughly reviews all safety measures during your consultation.
Most women can breastfeed successfully after breast augmentation, particularly when implants are placed beneath the pectoral muscle using an inframammary crease incision that leaves the milk ducts and overlying breast tissue completely undisturbed.
